AT&T subscribers who own a BlackBerry Priv will be delighted to find out today that the carrier has finally started rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for this handset. The latest iteration of Android has been available for the unlocked version of this handset for a couple of months now while T-Mobile released it for the Priv on its network last month.

The Priv is BlackBerry’s first Android-powered handset. The company hoped that perhaps it would help regain lost market share but the Priv hasn’t done as well as BlackBerry would have expected.

AT&T has started rolling out the Marshmallow update for BlackBerry Priv (STV100-1) over-the-air. Those who own the device are going to need a Wi-Fi connection to download the update because it’s a big one.

It comes with everything that’s part and parcel of Android Marshmallow, including but not limited to user interface improvements, several new features, enhanced notifications experience, more granular app permissions, and overall improvements for the handset.

Users will also notice better battery life once they update the Priv to Marshmallow courtesy of Doze mode. This update also brings support for adoptable storage. AT&T is rolling out the update over-the-air right now and it’s likely going to take some time before it goes live in all regions.
