blackberry-priv-review_ubergizmo_07Earlier we reported that the BlackBerry Classic had been discontinued as per the official announcement from BlackBerry. While they only stated that the Classic was discontinued, we guess there were some who might have interpreted it to mean that BlackBerry was done with the keyboard for good.

So much so that BlackBerry’s Senior Vice President for Global Device Sales, Alex Thurber had to take to Twitter to reassure users that the keyboard is here to stay. According to Thurber, “In response to some recent press reports, I want to be clear that @BlackBerry users have nothing to fear — the keyboard is here to stay…”

While full touchscreen displays are pretty much standard when it comes to smartphones these days, BlackBerry has long maintained the tradition of the physical keyboard. Even its current flagship the BlackBerry Priv has a slideout keyboard, although it also comes with a full touchscreen display just in case users preferred interacting with their phone that way.

There has not been any indication to suggest that the keyboard is going anywhere. If anything the keyboard actually separates BlackBerry’s phones from the competition. In any case hopefully fans of BlackBerry can rest easy knowing that this has since been cleared up.
