Google wants to provide indie game developers with a platform to showcase their creations and entice more of them to start creating games for Android, which is why the company has announced that it’s launching an Indie Games Festival later this year in September. The event is going to take place in San Francisco, submissions are now open for developers based in the United States and Canada who have a team of 15 people or less. Featured games have to be released at some point during 2016.

Submissions are open starting today and will remain open until August 14th. Google is going to be looking for high quality games that are innovative and fun, it’s going to announce featured games later that month.

It’s interesting to note that Google has scheduled the Indie Games Festival to take place about a month before one of the biggest independent gaming festivals, Indiecade, opens in Los Angeles on October 14th.

Google’s event is going to be free and open to public so anybody who can swing by the location will be able to check out all of the games on display. Developers will also have a chance to win some prizes from the company which includes but are not limited to Project Tango hardware, tickets for next year’s Google I/O conference, and coveted space in the Google Play Store.

The Indie Games Festival will take place on September 24th.
