Moto-Z-PlayLast month Motorola launched the Moto Z and Moto Z Force handsets. It was thought that there would only be two variants, but recent rumors have indicated that there could be a third variant in the works called the Moto Z Play that would be a lower specced handset, presumably with a more affordable price tag to match.

Now thanks to a newly leaked photo, the alleged Moto Z Play has been revealed, sort of. As you can see in the image above, the Moto Z Play is the handset pictured in the middle. At a glance all three handsets appeared to similar-ish in terms of design, but there is one very big and obvious difference: the Moto Z Play will apparently be retaining its 3.5mm headphone jack.

While Apple has been rumored to ditch the headphone jack, other Android OEMs such as Motorola have since beaten them to the punch. Instead users are expected to connect their headphones using USB-C which will eventually become the new standard of connectivity. However with the Moto Z Play, it seems that Motorola could decide that not all of its handsets should lose the headphone port.

If we had to speculate, perhaps the idea is that with the Moto Z Play possibly aimed at customers with a budget, that the idea of having to buy a new pair of USB-C headphones or an adapter might be added expense that customers would rather not pay. In any case there is no way of confirming the authenticity of the photo so take it with a grain of salt for now.
