pokemon-goTrying to get from one country into another without valid documentation can land one in a lot of trouble and could even lead to arrest, and it seems that a couple of teens from Canada nearly caused an international incident when they accidentally (and illegally) walked over the US-Canada border.

According to a report from ABC News, it seems that both teens were walking southbound from Alberta, Canada, into Montana while playing Pokemon GO. Turns out that they were both so distracted by the game that they did not realize they had crossed over and were summarily detained by the authorities.

Thankfully the authorities weren’t too harsh and simply detained them while they contacted the teens’ mother. According to the US Customs and Border Protection public affairs officer, Michael Rappold, “Both juveniles were so captivated by their Pokemon Go games that they lost track of where they were. They crossed the international border inadvertently, but agents were able to reunite them with their mother.”

Granted nothing untoward happened as a result of this, but in previous stories we have heard of how some people have crashed cars and fallen off a cliff while playing the game, so if you are an avid Pokemon GO player, do try to be more aware of your surroundings.
