Drones are pretty speedy little things. In fact just recently we heard a story of a how teens used a drone to chase after boat thieves, and even though they eventually lost them, the fact that they could keep up said quite a lot about its speed. However it seems that if you weren’t quite impressed and wanted something faster, you’re in luck.

A company in Utah has launched a drone called Teal. They claim that this is the world’s fastest consumer drone (we’re sure the drones used by the military are a lot faster) and can reach top speeds of up to 85mph! To give you an idea of how fast 85mph is, the DJI Phantom 4 in Sports mode maxes out at 45mph, so the Teal almost nearly doubles it.

Unfortunately to reach those speeds, it will require a lot of energy which means that it can only travel at a maximum length of 10 minutes before its battery dies. Other features of the drone includes a camera that can stream 720p, but when it isn’t streaming it can capture footage in 4K resolution at 24fps. Not exactly the smoothest framerate but for a drone we reckon it’s decent.

Unfortunately unlike other drones, the Teal does not have its own controller. Instead it will rely on an app for smartphones/tablets, which we imagine might not be as slick or as accurate as an actual physical controller. The drone is expected to ship by the end of the year where it will be priced at $1,299.
