Swatting isn’t new, and it seems that Pokemon GO players aren’t immune to it either. Just recently Twitch streaming Summ1t1G was out playing Pokemon GO when he was swatted. In the video above, it seems that he was aware that there were police in the park looking for someone, who he suspected could be himself.
He said, “I’m not in any danger whatsoever. I promise. A cop’s not just gonna come up and point his rifle at me for no reason. When it comes to police officers, I listen to every word they say and I abide by what they tell me to do.” Turns out he was right as the police approached him and ordered him to step away from the bench he was sitting on.
He later posted an update on his Twitter letting everyone know that he was fine. “For those wondering, everything is fine and the cops were super cool about things. Safe to say the stream is done for today though.” Like we said, this isn’t the first time streamers have been swatted while streaming live.
Chances are it will also not be the last time either, although thankfully it seems that no one has been seriously harmed as a result of these so-called pranks. However there have been proposals to make swatting a federal crime, meaning that getting caught will hold much more serious consequences.
