ubisoft-logoWhile Niantic started with Ingress, we suppose the popularity of Pokemon GO has truly allowed the technology of augmented reality to shine through, which also demonstrates the potential and possibilities of applying the tech to games in the future. While VR seems to have been the more popular option before, the success of Pokemon GO could put AR as a potential alternative.

In fact the folks at Ubisoft seem to be pretty impressed by Pokemon GO’s success. This is according to the company’s CEO Yves Guillemot who expressed how impressed he was with the game during Ubisoft’s recent earnings call. So much so that apparently he also teased the fact that Ubisoft had their own augmented reality game in the works.

However Guillemot stressed the fact that it isn’t the same kind of game as Pokemon GO, but it will still leverage the augmented reality technology all the same. It also appears that the game will not be released anytime soon, so don’t hold your breath, but like we said, the popularity of Pokemon GO has made us pretty excited as to what other developers could come up with.

In the meantime there is the nagging question of whether or not Pokemon GO’s popularity and success at the moment is simply due to the novelty of the technology, and whether or not it can be sustained, but in the meantime we’re pretty sure Nintendo has to be pleased with its success.
