A little over a week ago, Blizzard teased Harbingers, an upcoming series of shorts that would give gamers a bit of backstory about the World of Warcraft and some of its characters in preparation for the Legion expansion. For those excited by the teaser, the wait is over as the first animated short has been released.
The first animated short from the Harbingers series features the Orc warlock Gul’dan. Just in case you didn’t know, Gul’dan is one of the main antagonists in the Warcraft franchise. He was also the main bad guy in the Warcraft movie and was also featured prominently in the current Warlords of Draenor expansion.
He is also expected to play a role in the upcoming Legion expansion, and this animated short basically gives us an idea of how Gul’dan came to be who he is today. In a way it almost humanizes him, like how he might have turned out differently had his past been a bit different, but we suppose everything happens for a reason, right?
Interestingly enough this story of Gul’dan is different from what long-time Warcraft fans know of him and his backstory, so we’re not sure how Blizzard arrived at this story. Could we be looking at an alternate timeline Gul’dan? Or did Blizzard just retcon everything we know so far?
