Even though there have been rumors in the past, Google hasn’t come out with own-brand smartphones as yet. For the past few years it has been working with third-party manufacturers to develop Nexus smartphones and tablets which it directly sells and prioritizes for software updates. A new report claims that the company’s first Google-branded smartphones are going to be released next month.

A report out of India claims that Google’s own-brand smartphones are going to be released next month and that too in a handful of countries including India.

It also claims that Google will introduce two handsets with 5 inch and 5.5 inch display sizes. Both are said to be running Android Nougat, with 32GB and 128GB storage options. No additional specifications have been confirmed at this point in time.

These handsets will reportedly not be marketed under the Nexus brand, rather Google is said to slap its own name on the handsets. It’s unclear who the company’s manufacturing partner is for these devices but it’s speculated that the partner might be HTC.

Google hasn’t confirmed or denied anything about this report so take it with a grain of salt until there’s more evidence to suggest that it’s going to release own-brand smartphones in the very near future.
