google-maps-wi-fi-only
Google started testing a new feature for Maps on Android last month which will enable users to activate a Wi-Fi only mode in the mapping application. This feature will prove to be very useful for those who have expensive mobile data plans and want to avoid overages as much as possible, the feature will limit Maps usage to Wi-Fi only thus ensuring that their precious mobile data is never spent on Google Maps. Google is now rolling out this feature for Maps on Android.

Starting today, all Google Maps users on Android can toggle the Wi-Fi only mode from the settings menu. This will limit the app to offline areas that have previously been downloaded and will seek a Wi-Fi connection first before it pulls in more data.

This feature gives users peace of mind as they avoid overages and it doesn’t affect the device in any other way, so the device continues to function as it normally would but Maps gets restricted to Wi-Fi only.

Google is also adding SD card support to Maps which allows users to download offline maps to external memory so that they can free up precious internal storage.

The new updates for Google Maps are out now and will soon be available for all Android users across the globe.
