Pokemon Go has quickly become a global sensation and already there have been countless stories of how people have put themselves and others at risk while on the hunt for these little monsters. Naturally, there’s concern among public officials and law enforcement agencies. Rolen Paulino, mayor of Olongapo City in the Philippines, has warned students that they will be arrested if they are caught playing Pokemon Go on days when the school is suspended because of inclement weather.
Paulino has said that school authorities decide to cancel classes when there’s a typhoon to ensure that students remain safe, adding that students should be spending that free time studying instead of playing Pokemon Go.
“It is not that easy to just suspend classes and we need to study well when to issue this (suspension) because at the end of the day, you will also pay for it,” Paulino told students.
So on days when school is out in Olongapo City due to bad weather, any student out and about can be arrested for playing Pokemon Go and they will then have to spend a week in a youth center.
Meanwhile, a councilor in the Quezon City has filed a resolution calling on Pokemon Go developer Niantic to exclude government offices, schools, and churches from poke stops and lure stops.
