pokemon uraniumThe other day we reported that a fan-made Pokemon game called Pokemon Uranium was launched after 9 years of hard work. However it seems that Nintendo doesn’t really care how long it took its creators to make the game because they have since sent takedown notices to its creators, asking them to remove the download links to the game.

According to its creators, “After receiving more than 1,500,000 downloads of our game, we have been notified of multiple takedown notices from lawyers representing Nintendo of America. While we have not personally been contacted, it’s clear what their wishes are, and we respect those wishes deeply. Therefore, we will no longer provide official download links for the game through our website.”

This really shouldn’t be surprising and we’re actually surprised that its creators went ahead with its launch anyway, especially knowing that Nintendo isn’t exactly a fan when it comes to fan-made projects that do not have its express approval. Of course the company can’t stop players who downloaded the game from playing it, but if you were hoping to download it, you’d be out of luck.

Involuntary Twitch has also warned gamers that while there might be unofficial uploads by gamers trying to keep the game alive, they can’t verify those downloads so for all you know, you could be downloading malware, so do be careful if that’s the route you decide to go. We have to say we are rather disappointed by this, especially with all the time and effort they put into the game, but we suppose that’s the risk fans have to take when it comes to unsanctioned projects.
