OnePlus today announced that it’s suspending sales of its flagship OnePlus 3 smartphone due to exigent circumstances. OnePlus has always sold smartphones through an invite system that was widely criticized but it allowed the company total control over supply and demand. The OnePlus 3 is actually the first smartphone it sold without any need for invitations and it appears to be facing issues keeping up with the demand now, hence the sales suspension.

Demand for the OnePlus 3 has been strong and ever since this handset was launched the shipping timeline has gradually been extended. For sales in the U.S. the shipping timeline still remains at around two weeks, even more so in Europe and other markets.

OnePlus is unable to keep up with demand for the OnePlus 3 which is why it has decided to temporarily suspend sales in several markets across Europe. Sales will also be suspended in Hong Kong. The following countries are included in the list: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.

The sales ban in these countries will be in effect from August 9th to September 12th. OnePlus needs this time to replenish stock in these countries before it can start taking orders once again.

Customers in these markets have a few days on their hands now to get their orders in so that the OnePlus 3 can be shipped to them in a few weeks. If they don’t get an order in before August 9th they will not be able to order one until September 12th.
