pokemon-goWhen Pokemon GO was first launched and its availability isn’t what it is today, players resorted to spoofing their location to trick the app into thinking they were playing in a different country where the game was available. Players also resorted to botting which basically let a bot play the game for them.

In fact this was a common problem in countries where the game launched much later, as players who had been botting and spoofing had much higher level characters and Pokemons compared to regular players, thus making it pretty much impossible to challenge local gyms. However it looks like Niantic will be taking a tough stance on these cheaters by permanently banning their accounts.

According to an FAQ posted on Niantic’s website, the developer has pretty much announced that they will be permanently banning accounts that they have found to be cheating. According to the message, “Your account was permanently terminated for violations of the Pokémon GO Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to: falsifying your location, using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokémon GO clients or backends in an unauthorized manner including through the use of third party software.”

Gamers are of course more than welcome to submit an appeal if they believe to have been wrongly banned, but in the meantime if you are currently using any cheats or tools, maybe you might want to stop.
