pokemon go revenueApps such as Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Candy Crush are pretty popular amongst gamers, and are great examples of how in-app purchases is actually a very good source of revenue. However none of these games have shown the level of popularity and cultural impact that Pokemon GO has.

This is also why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn how much money the game has made its developers to date. According to a report from Sensor Tower, they have estimated that Pokemon GO has made Niantic a whopping $200 million to date. Given that the game is free, this means that all $200 million has come from gamers making in-app purchases.

As you can see in the graph above, games like Candy Crush and Clash Royale has not seen the explosive growth that Pokemon GO has. Clash Royale did come relatively close by making close to $125 million in its first month, while Candy Crush pulled in around $25 million. The graph also shows Pokemon GO exploding in revenue around the halfway mark after it was launched in Japan.

That being said, the question is whether this is a growth that can be sustained for months or years to come. So far Niantic has been making some changes that have not gone down well with players, but with new features and updates planned for the future, hopefully they’ll find their groove.
