Previously, the only way you could switch to Republic Wireless was if you purchased a handset from the prepaid carrier. Republic Wireless recently expanded its lineup to include some high-end smartphones and today it announced that it’s now easier than ever before to switch. It’s offering SIMs now which means that you can take your own phone to Republic Wireless, but there is a caveat.

Now that it’s offering SIMs, you are able to take your own phone to Republic Wireless, but the caveat is that it has to be on the carrier’s approved list. If the handset isn’t on the approved list then you can’t use it on Republic Wireless and will have to purchase a new one just for this purpose.

Handsets on the approved list are the same as the ones it sells. The list includes the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy J3, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Moto X Pure Edition, Moto G4 Plus, and the Moto G4.

Until tomorrow, customers can get a SIM card from Republic Wireless for free, they just have to pay shipping and taxes. The offer is limited to the first four SIM card kits per order and all additional kits have to be purchased at $5 each.
