When someone steals a phone, they’d probably want to disable all the security measures in place, and one of the ways they can do that is by wiping the phone completely back to its factory settings. Or at least that’s how they used to do that until smartphone makers wised up and added protective measures to counteract that.

For example iOS has Activation Lock, and Samsung has Factory Reset Protection, but it seems that it isn’t particularly effective because RootJunky appears to have successfully managed to bypass the system again. Wait, again? If you might recall, last November RootJunky posted a video that demonstrated him bypassing the protection.

He even managed to do that with LG’s devices, so safe to say that if the thief knew what they were doing or if they knew someone who knew what they were doing, your stolen Samsung phone’s protection pretty much means squat. It would also seem that this will work on Samsung’s latest handsets which includes the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 active, S6 edge+, Note5, S7, S7 edge, S7 active, and possibly even the recently launched Note 7.

In any case this is definitely something that Samsung, LG, and other companies such as Google should look into. In the meantime you can check out the video above to see it in action.
