tekken 7 fated retributionOne of the benefits of playing PC games is that it doesn’t matter what PC you have, as long as you can play the game and there is multiplayer, you can play with just about anyone. Unfortunately this didn’t really apply to consoles until recently where Microsoft revealed that they were open to the idea of cross-play between the Xbox One and PS4.

The good news is that it looks like Tekken 7 is ready to take advantage of this. The bad news is that it looks like it is entirely up to Sony to decide if they want to make it cross-play. According to the game’s designer Michael Murray, he tweeted in response to a question from a gamer who asked about cross-play, to which he replied by saying, “Please ask Sony. MS already publicly said they’re interested in cross platform.”

In the past we’ve seen cross-play between consoles and PCs, but console to console is pretty much non-existent. We suppose the idea is that Microsoft and Sony would make their own multiplayer networks an exclusive feature so that gamers will pick a side, although this can be inconvenient as not all players own the same console, meaning that sometimes friends will miss out on playing games with other friends just because of differing consoles.

Will Sony ultimately decide to make Tekken 7 cross-play? We suppose we’ll have to wait and see, but with the game coming out in 2017, we suppose there’s still time for Sony to make their decision, so fingers crossed!
