xiaomi-mi-drone-1Drones are fun gadgets if you’re looking to take some amazing photos or videos from heights and angles you normally would not be able to reach by yourself. However in some instances, they can also be a burden and a nuisance to people around them, especially if these drones were perceived to be invading their privacy.

This is exactly what happened when 65-year old Jennifer Youngman spotted a drone hovering over her property, prompting her to fire her shotgun at the drone and pretty much destroying it. Speaking to the Fauquier Times, Youngman said she was cleaning her shotguns when she heard the drone flying about, but since it had not trespassed on her property, she did not think much of it.

However when it did, Youngman said, “I loaded my shotgun and took the safety off, and this thing came flying over my trees. I don’t know if they lost command or if they didn’t have good command, but the wind had picked up. It came over my airspace, 25 or 30 feet above my trees, and hovered for a second. I blasted it to smithereens.”

Naturally the drone owners weren’t too thrilled and when they came over, Youngman told them, “The police are up here in The Plains and they are on their way and you need to leave.” She added, “They got in their fancy ostentatious car—I don’t know if it was a Range Rover or a Hummer—and left.” We should note that this is not the first time a drone has been shot down for flying where it should not be flying.
