wow legionWorld of Warcraft’s Legion expansion will be launched at the end of the month, so the question is how many players will be returning? We suppose that with every expansion, Blizzard will see an influx of players looking to see what’s new and if they should stick around, and with Legion it is no exception.

During Activision Blizzard’s quarterly financial conference, Blizzard’s President Michael Morhaime revealed that they are seeing positive trends on the game leading up to Legion’s release. Morhaime attributes this to the hype surrounding the expansion, plus there was also the Warcraft movie which interestingly enough touches on some topics that are similar to Legion, such as dealing with the Legion and Gul’dan and Fel magic.

We suppose the fact that the Demon Hunter class is being introduced along with the Artifact Weapons also helped hype the game. Whether or not Legion will be able to hit the same numbers that Warlords of Draenor did at the start remains to be seen, but as Blizzard stated last year, they will no longer be sharing subscription numbers, so it’s really anyone’s guess.

That being said, World of Warcraft has been around for about a decade which means that a declining player base shouldn’t really come as a surprise, so the only thing Blizzard can do right now is try to make the bleed as slow as possible.
