Xiaomi has made a name for itself in a very short span of time. The company is best known for creating great products that are very competitively priced. It creates a whole range of products such as smartphones, smart bands, notebooks, action cameras, and even rice cookers. Xiaomi has certainly expanded its reach beyond its home country of China but its presence in the United States remains limited. Things are set to change as Xiaomi has said that it’s coming to the United States in the “near future.”

It has been rumored many times in the past that Xiaomi will soon be setting foot in the lucrative U.S. market but the company never really committed to it in the past, things appear to be a bit different this time around.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Xiaomi’s head of global expansion Hugo Barra said that the company can no longer afford to be out of the U.S. market as it’s “very important” for consumer electronics companies.

Barra also revealed that once the company lands in the U.S. it’s going to use social media to promote its smartphones and other products. He said that the company is going to launch a new product in the country come October but didn’t mention what this product is going to be.

Xiaomi already sells some of its accessories through the Mi.com website, accessories such as power banks, headphones, and activity trackers. Once it does bring its smartphones to the United States it’s certainly going to make this smartphone market even more competitive.
