Amazon introduced its Alexa digital personal assistant with the Echo smart speaker. Since then the company has expanded its Echo lineup with more devices that are supported by Alexa. The company’s personal digital assistant is quite powerful and capable of performing hundreds of tasks when given the right voice commands but it’s only available on a limited number of devices. That might change soon if reports are to be believed, Amazon and Lenovo are reportedly in talks to bring Alexa to PCs.
Digital personal assistants are not exactly common on PCs. Apple has made its users wait a very long time for Siri on Mac, its assistant is going to finally land on the Mac later this year.
Microsoft shook up the market with Windows 10 which has Cortana built-in. You can get install Windows 10 on your existing PC or get a new one and start using Cortana. Amazon is now said to be in talks with Lenovo to expand Alexa to PCs.
CNET’s report quotes an unnamed Lenovo executive who has confirmed to the scribe that the talks are taking place. There’s no further information available about the talks right now so it’s unclear if and when Alexa is going to be baked inside a Lenovo PC.
It’s also unclear whether a deal reached between the two will have an exclusivity clause or if Amazon will be able to work with other PC manufacturers to further expand Alexa.
