Apple has several offices in London but it doesn’t have a central campus which houses all of its employees in one place. That’s going to change in the next few years. The company has confirmed today that it’s moving into a London landmark. It’s London HQ is going to be set up inside the landmark Battersea Power Station which is instantly recognizable by its quarter of art deco chimneys.
The Battersea Power Station was built in the 1930s and it has been left to its own devices for the better part of three decades before it was finally purchased by a Malaysian consortium in 2012. Now, a total area of 42 acres is being developed half of which is going to house restaurants, shops, hotels as well as housing projects.
Apple’s HQ is going to be located in the former central boiler house of the Battersea Power Station. It’s going to be the largest office tenant at this iconic site. Construction is going to take time which is why Apple is going to move into its new London digs by 2021. Its offices will take up 500,000 sq feet of space across six floors.
UK Finance Minister Philip Hammond has welcomed Apple’s decision and said that it’s a clear sign that global businesses are not shying away from investing in the United Kingdom even though it has voted this summer to formally leave the European Union, a move that’s commonly referred to as the Brexit.
