It has long been rumored that Apple is interested in launching a standalone TV streaming service of its own. Recent reports have suggested that networks are not willing to play ball as the rates that Apple is offering are too low. However, the company’s latest hire is now fueling rumors of a TV service yet again, it makes sense because Apple’s newest employee happens to be a former Time Warner Cable executive.

The Wall Street Journal reports that former Time Warner Cable executive Peter Stern has been hired by Apple and that he’s going to be working under Eddy Cue on Apple’s “cloud services.”

It’s unclear precisely what these “cloud services” are, but keep in mind that Stern was believed to be one of the people at Time Warner Cable negotiating with Apple in the early days of its TV service plans.

Stern is joining Apple from one of the biggest TV companies in this part of the world so naturally, he knows a thing or two about this business. He would be the perfect negotiator for Apple when the company sits down with networks again to try and create a bundle that it can sell for a competitive price.

Nevertheless, this is all speculation at this point in time because Apple hasn’t confirmed whether it has hired Stern – which is unlikely since the company doesn’t normally talk about people it has hired – and it hasn’t said anything as yet about a TV service.
