We recently saw speculation about the future of BlackBerry’s handset business which continues to lose money but it appears that the company is not giving up on hardware just yet. There have been whispers of a new handset in the pipeline codenamed Argon and now that device has picked up its FCC certification. The official moniker mentioned in the FCC filings is DTEK60. BlackBerry released the mid-range DTEK50 a couple of months ago.
BlackBerry DTEK60 has now received the relevant certifications from the Federal Communications Commission as well as the Wi-Fi Alliance. Normally this is taken as an indication of an impending launch so that might very well be the case here.
Previous reports suggest that the DTEK60 is going to feature a 5.5 inch Quad HD display with a Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood coupled with 4GB RAM, 32GB storage and a USB Type-C port. Additional specifications are expected to include a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, 21 megapixel rear and 8 megapixel front camera, fingerprint sensor, hardware convenience key as well as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
No information about pricing and availability has leaked out as yet and BlackBerry is yet to confirm if and when it’s going to launch a new handset. From the looks of it, this just might be the Canadian company’s flagship for 2016.
