imessage-spam-inline3Spammers and scammers are annoying, and for the most part since many of them try to run the same con, or a variation of the con, it’s not that hard to spot one and to ignore it. In the past we have seen developers take on scammers and spammers by giving them a taste of their own medicine, although in Brian Weinreich’s case, he has automated the process.

In a post on Medium, Weinreich revealed that for the past two years, he has been using a bot that he created to reply to spam emails. Now like we said, it’s easy to just ignore them but we guess if the opportunity arose to annoy the heck out of these spammers, we’re sure many of us would jump at the chance, and Weinreich had the tools to do just that.

Basically this bot would reply to emails with responses that are appropriate. It’s not 100% accurate in some of the replies, but for the most part it is believable. Weinreich even uploaded some of the conversations he’s had with the spammers and his bot, and like we said, if you did not know any better, you might think that the bot’s response was real.

It even has the ability to negotiate prices for the “products” offered by the spammer (only to a certain extent). Weinreich has even uploaded the source code to his Sp@mLooper bot to GitHub so if you’re interested in using it for yourself or improving on it, have at it. In the meantime you can check out the bot’s conversations with the spammers here.
