iphone-upgrade-eligibleOne of the unique features of the iPhone 7 Plus would be its dual camera setup, which not only allows users to capture wide-angle and telephoto images, but when combined it will produce a rather nice bokeh effect that we used to think was limited to just DSLRs and expensive camera lenses.

However during the presentation of the device, Apple stated that this feature, dubbed Portrait Camera, would only be arriving at a later date via a software update. For those worried that we might have to wait months for its release, it doesn’t really seem that way. It has been noted that in the iOS 10.1 beta seeded to developers, Apple has added the camera mode into iOS.

What this means is that iPhone 7 Plus users can look forward to the feature when iOS 10.1 is released, which unfortunately we have no idea when that will be. That being said, those who are testing out the feature have pointed out that there are some limitations, such as how the subject you’re trying to photograph needs to be within 8-feet in order to achieve that bokeh effect. If you’re too close, you will also get the message to move further away.

While we can appreciate this mode, we have to say that we would have preferred if Apple just made it a feature of the camera’s default mode since it would be a lot more efficient than users having to switch modes, but who knows, maybe future iOS/iPhones will change that. In the meantime non-developers can take iOS 10.1 beta for a spin this Friday when it becomes publicly available.
