When Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7, they also removed a connectivity option. Now users had to choose to either go with Lightning (or use the adapter which uses the Lightning port) or use Bluetooth. However it seems that now Bluetooth connectivity is presenting itself as a problem.According to various user reports, it seems that quite a few iPhone 7 and 7 Plus owners are reporting Bluetooth connectivity problems when using Bluetooth with their cars. So far it seems that those who are affected are BMW owners, although other vehicle brands such as Hyundai and Kia have been mentioned albeit not as much.
One of MacRumors’ readers, YachtMac, who posted in the forums claims, “My iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 10.0.2 will not stream audio for more than a few seconds in a BMW 4 series with the latest multimedia software. I have researched the issue and others with BMWs and other makes seem to be experiencing the same or similar streaming issues.”
BMW has since responded to complaints by saying, “We are aware of the concerns you speak of and we are currently working directly with Apple to ensure iPhone 7 compatibility in our vehicles. At this time, the Apple iPhone 7 is not an approved device for our vehicles until testing has completed. We do not currently have an estimated time frame regarding the completion of iPhone 7 testing.”
Apple has also apparently told some customers that these issues will be addressed in an upcoming update, but as MacRumors notes, the problem is still present in the latest iOS 10.1 beta.
