A report out of South Korea claims that LG has given up on plans for an OLED curved display for the LG G6. It’s claimed that the company has made this decision due to supply issues. The LG G6 may not include a full-metal body and glass cover as well due to cost issues. The report goes so far as to say that LG is now considering to change the entire design of the LG G6 due to these problems. LG’s 2017 flagship isn’t due until the first quarter of next year so the company does have ample time to make changes.

ChosunBiz reports that LG has now decided to offer the LG G6 with a flat-screne LCD panel as it has been told by its affiliate company LG Display that it lacks the production capacity required to meet demand for a curved OLED display.

LG Display does produce OLED panels but they are small in size and are primarily used for the Apple Watch and LG’s own smartwatches. The company finds it difficult to convert them for use in smartphones immediately. It expects to start producing OLED panels for smartphones at capacity by the second half of next year.

LG hasn’t confirmed anything about the G6 itself so we can’t be sure that this is what’s really going to happen. Since the G6 isn’t due for many months we are bound to hear a lot of conflicting reports before it’s actually unveiled by LG.
