In the age of the smartphone, it’s hard to imagine anyone using a phone without a touchscreen display that does not run Android or iOS, or have apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and so on. However there are plenty of markets out there in which smartphones are considered an unattainable luxury, and in those markets, the feature phone lives on.
In fact Microsoft is still catering to those markets because in a surprise announcement, the Redmond company has taken the wraps off the Nokia 216 feature phone. In terms of specs and features, it’s not exactly the most impressive. It has a 2.4-inch QVGA display and comes with a pair of 0.3MP cameras on the front and back. It also run on Series 30 OS with Opera mini as its browser of choice.
Other features as listed on Microsoft’s website includes, “Enjoy high quality voice calls, outstanding battery life, a built-in torchlight, FM Radio3, MP3 and video player, up to 18 hours talk time, up to 24 days standby time,4 Bluetooth 3.0 and Bluetooth audio support for headsets. Space for up to 2000 contacts.”
Is this phone for you? Probably not, but it’s interesting to see that Microsoft is still churning out Nokia devices even though it does look like the company’s mobile efforts have been kind of waning. We’re not sure how much the Nokia 216 will cost, but don’t expect it to break the bank.
