The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is a small-ish device, but its lithium-ion battery packs quite a punch, meaning that despite the phone’s small stature, its explosion is definitely no joke. In fact not too long ago we heard that an exploding Note 7 could have potentially set a jeep on fire, and now it looks like we have another case of a vehicle on fire.
According to the most recent reports, it seems that a vehicle caught on fire on a highway in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The police claim that the driver, 55-year old Clifford Samuels, told them that the cause for the fire is due to the Note 7 which exploded while it was being charged in the car, although this has yet to be officially confirmed by authorities or Samsung.
In the video captured by Sharon Cain, a nurse, she says, “A car caught fire from a charg(ing) Note Galaxy 7 on Crosstown (in) Port St. Lucie. I was told (that) the gentleman was charging his phone when he heard a loud pop (and then) the phone blew up. I am a nurse so I stopped to make sure there was no help needed from me.”
As you can see, the fire was pretty huge and pretty scary. As you can imagine, this is why many airline companies and government agencies have urged passengers to not check the Note 7 into their luggages and to not use or charge the handset while on board a flight. This also applies to public transport in which New York’s MTA issued a warning about the handset as well.
