ps4 proA couple of days ago, Sony officially unveiled the PS4 Pro. This is essentially an upgraded PS4 with more powerful hardware and the ability to support 4K gaming. Given that 4K is probably the standard resolution of the future, it would make sense for Sony to start getting ready for it, as opposed to waiting and then responding.

As it turns out, it seems that the PS4 Pro was conceived several years ago. In fact it was actually conceived during the original PS4’s launch, at least that’s according to Sony’s Lead Systems Architect Mark Cerny, who revealed in an interview that Sony had already begun to think about what was next for the PlayStation platform as soon as the PS4 was launched back in November 2013.

According to Cerny, “We actually started thinking about the new console pretty much as soon as PlayStation 4 shipped.  It was clear that during this generation 4K TV penetration would become pretty significant at some point, and we wanted to see if we could get something out there in the market to support it.”

He adds, “Once we realized that the increased processing power that was necessary for 4K could be used to make the graphics better on HDTV as well, the PS4 Pro simply became a must do.” As it stands, both Microsoft and Sony have announced consoles that will be able to support 4K gaming, meaning that Nintendo is the only left. That being said, the PS4 Pro will be available for purchase come 10th of November where it will be priced at $400.
