Samsung issued a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 even before it started shipping the new flagship in India which is the only reason why there have been no reports of the Galaxy Note 7 exploding in that country. The recall has forced Samsung to push back shipments in India so as an apology for making customers wait even longer, Samsung has decided to give a free Gear VR headset to all customers who pre-order its new flagship.

Samsung has recalled the Galaxy Note 7 globally due to a battery cell issue. In markets where the handset had already been shipped, it has immediately suspended sales and will offer replacements and refunds to all customers who already received their units.

Customers in India never got their pre-ordered units but at least they can rest assured that the inventory their country gets will be free from this battery cell issue. They will be able to use the handset with complete confidence.

The company has said that as a “gesture of goodwill” it’s going to ship the new Gear VR headset free of cost to all customers who pre-ordered the handset. It’s also going to give them a $50 content voucher for the Oculus Store which they can use to purchase VR experiences.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed yet when it’s going to finally start shipping the Galaxy Note 7 in India.
