super mario runYesterday during Apple’s iPhone presentation, the Cupertino company surprised everyone when they brought Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto on stage in which it was announced that Nintendo would be releasing Super Mario Run as an iOS exclusive. Naturally some wonder if this exclusive is forever or timed, and the good news for Android gamers is that it is a timed exclusive.

Nintendo has since confirmed to Kotaku that yes, Super Mario Run will eventually find its way onto Android. In a statement made to the website, Nintendo was quoted as saying, “We do intend to release the game on Android devices at some point in the future.” However the question is, when exactly will it arrive on Android?

Nintendo did state that they are planning to release it on iOS in time for the holiday season, but unfortunately for Android gamers it looks like you guys will have to wait until 2017. According to IGN, it seems that Miyamoto told them that Super Mario Run will not be arriving for Android this year, meaning that we’re looking at a 2017 release at the earliest.

Miyamoto was also quoted as telling IGN the reason for choosing iOS. “For us, the stability of the iOS platform was important in choosing iPhones for the game.” No specific dates were mentioned for 2017, so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but we suppose at the very least we know that it is coming.
