swift-playgrounds-release-templateBack at WWDC 2016 earlier this year, Apple announced a new app called Swift Playgrounds that was designed to teach children how to code (we suppose adults can use it too). The app was scheduled for a fall release and the good news is that if you’ve been meaning to check it out, the app is now available for download.

As expected the app is only for iOS devices so for Android users, we guess you’ll have to learn how to code in Swift in a different way. The goal of Swift Playgrounds is to help impart knowledge on how to code in the Swift programming language so that developers will be able to create apps for the iOS ecosystem.

According to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, “Everyone should have the opportunity to learn coding, and we are excited to bring Swift Playgrounds to the next generation of programmers looking for a fun and easy way to explore key coding concepts using real code. More than 100 schools around the world have already committed to adding Swift Playgrounds to their fall curriculum, and we can’t wait to see what students create with it.”

The app is a free download and will be pretty much compatible with almost all iOS devices running iOS 10 or later. To download the app, head on over to the iTunes App Store.
