tekken 7 fated retributionThese days it is pretty rare to go to someone’s home and not find a computer. This isn’t the same situation when it comes to consoles like the PS4 or Xbox One, which means that when it comes to multiplayer games, Xbox gamers typically can only play with Xbox gamers, and the same can be said for PS4 gamers.

This is where the idea cross-platform play comes in, where regardless of platform, gamers can play with each other. Microsoft is open to the idea, but unfortunately the developers behind Tekken 7 won’t be so quick to embrace it. In a tweet by Katsuhiro Harada (as translated by Flying Wonkey at Avoiding the Puddle), he basically shot the idea down, citing “security risks” as one of the reasons.

The original tweet reads, “It’s not a matter of the technology for getting the PS4/XB1/PC players to match up against each other being the issue, but rather first party company policies and potential security risks alongside the community perceived reputation of PC gamers being cheaters that is hindering the decision to allow cross platform play.”

It has since been clarified that Harada is not calling PC gamers cheaters as he considers himself a PC gamer as well, but rather this is the apparent perception that console gamers have of PC gamers. Whether that perception is unfounded depends on who you’re talking to, but basically at the end of the day, don’t hold your breath for cross-platform play.
