amazon-echo-dotA couple of months ago we heard the rumors that Amazon was planning an Echo-only music streaming service. Now according to a report from The Verge, that service is said to be close to ready and could be launching as soon as in the next few weeks. It is also rumored to cost $5 a month and users will have access to Amazon’s entire music library on-demand.

However like we said, this service will be limited to the Echo which means that if you wanted to play music on your phone or computer via this service, that’s pretty much out of the question. In addition to the Echo-only service, Amazon is also expected to debut a more “standard” streaming service that could be called Amazon Music Unlimited.

This will be the same library as the service for the Echo, except that it will be available across multiple platforms, function similarly to Apple Music and Spotify, and is also expected to be priced similarly at $10 a month. We know this is a bit confusing as Amazon already has Prime Music, but we guess Amazon is hoping to compete better in the streaming game with this alleged new service that won’t require users to have an Amazon Prime subscription.

Take it with a grain of salt, but if the rumors are true we should be able to hear something official soon.
