Google has already prepared the first major upgrade for Android 7.0 Nougat. The company’s new Pixel smartphones already come with Android 7.1 out of the box and Google has now confirmed that it has scheduled the Android 7.1 beta release for later this month. The beta will be released for Nexus devices that are compatible with Nougat. It hasn’t provided a confirmed release date yet, only that it will be out at some point in October.

Android 7.1 beta release has been confirmed for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and the Pixel C tablet. As previously mentioned, the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will already be running the first major update for Nougat when they are released on October 20th. It’s likely that beta builds will be released once the handsets start shipping.

The Pixel smartphones also have some software features that are exclusive to the lineup. The features include Pixel Camera, Pixel Launcher, and Google Assistant. Even though Assistant is meant to be a Pixel exclusive, there is a method to enable it on any device running Android 7.0 Nougat.

Android 7.1 beta release will bring features like Night Light, support for Daydream VR, as well as improvements to display and touch responsiveness. Google is yet to confirm when it’s looking to release Android 7.1 Nougat to all supported devices. Hopefully, it will confirm the beta release date in the near future.
