Apple’s latest desktop software update has been out for a couple of weeks now. Those who have still not downloaded it will be interested to know that starting today, Apple is going to download macOS Sierra on supported Macs automatically. There are some restrictions, though. Users must have automatic downloads turned on for Sierra to be automatically downloaded and they must have enough free space on the computer.

Even though the macOS Sierra update will be automatically downloaded on supported Macs, it won’t be installed on its own. Since this is an entirely new iteration of the desktop OS, users still have to manually start the install once the update has been downloaded.

Those who are not ready to install macOS Sierra or just don’t want to upgrade can easily delete the installer or disable automatic downloads from the Mac App Store. Even if the installer has been already downloaded it will be deleted on its own if the computer starts running low on storage and the user hasn’t updated yet.

This latest move by Apple is surely going to bring about an increase in the adoption numbers of macOS Sierra which is a substantial new update to the desktop OS. It brings several new features and it’s also the first macOS release which brings Siri to the desktop.
