comixologycomiXology used to be one of the premium apps users would turn to when they wanted to purchase digital comics. That has changed somewhat ever since Amazon acquired the company and removed the ability to make in-app purchases, presumably because they did not want to give Apple a cut of their earnings.

That being said, it seems that the platform is now trying to lure users back to it by launching a new offering called comiXology Originals. As its name implies, this is basically a platform in which users can look forward to original comics that are published on comiXology. Think of as Netflix Originals, or Amazon’s own original shows, except for comics.

Speaking to the New York Times, David Steinberger, the co-founder and chief executive of comiXology said, “We want to make sure there is a comic for everyone. If it’s super successful and becomes its own thing, hallelujah. But we’ll continue to experiment to attract new readers and hit the core.”

As for pricing, it seems that the original comics won’t be too outrageous, with its initial offerings priced as low as $3.99 and going up to $9.99. The comics will be exclusive to the comiXology app as well as the Kindle, so if you were hoping to see them published elsewhere, that won’t be the case for now.
