We’ve all known for a while now that a standalone Han Solo movie is being produced and the casting picks are gradually being revealed. It has now been confirmed that Donald Glover has been cast to play the young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming movie. The confirmation comes after many months of rumors suggesting that Glover is going to be picked for this role, and now we know for sure that it’s indeed him that’s going to play the young smuggler’s buddy.

Lucasfilm has said that Glover is going to portray Lando in his “formative years” as a young player in the galaxy’s underworld.

Glover certainly has a lot to live up to as Star Wars fans can be unrelenting, but directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller believe that he’s the right man for the job. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever,” they said in a statement.

Alden Ehrenreich has already been cast to play the young Han Solo, a role that has forever been made immortal by the great Harrison Ford. The standalone movie is set many years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back.

The standalone Han Solo movie is expected to be released at some point in 2018.
