ebay-fb-messenger-botEarlier this year, Facebook announced that its Messenger platform would be getting chatbots. For those unfamiliar with chatbots, basically these are bots that you can converse with in natural language to make inquiries regarding restaurant bookings, the weather, flight ticket prices, and more.

Now if you’re more of a shopper, you might be interested to learn that eBay has announced that they will be launching the eBay ShopBot on Facebook Messenger, which is basically a shopping chatbot for the platform. According to eBay, “eBay ShopBot is a personalized shopping assistant that helps people find the best deals from eBay’s one billion listings. Our vision is to make shopping with eBay as easy as talking to a friend, whether you are looking for something specific or just browsing for inspiration.”

Users will be able to ask the ShopBot a variety of questions and tell it what they want to buy. It seems that the bot is also smart enough where users can upload photos to it and the bot will then analyze the photo to try and search for items that are similar to it. It is also expected that as the more users use the bot, the smarter it will get.

We should point out that the eBay ShopBot is currently in beta so if it doesn’t work 100% the way it is intended, don’t be surprised. It is already live so if you want to take it for a spin, search for the eBay ShopBot in Facebook Messenger.
