Every now and then Facebook launches a new app to see how well it will do, and whether or not it will be worth keeping around. Some apps have stayed, some have been kicked to the curb, and Facebook’s latest effort comes in the form of Events. In case it wasn’t already obvious, this is an app for events.On Facebook you can already check for events that you are going for, that are coming up, or that are around you. With this Events from Facebook app, it provides a more dedicated platform for you to keep track of events. “When you open Events, you can quickly catch up on new events your friends are interested in, recently-announced events by the Pages you like, and updates from events you’re already connected to.”
Facebook will also allow users to check for events based on time, location, and interests. So for example if you would like to see if there are any modern art exhibitions that are taking place over the weekend, you can search for that within the app. It also works if you’re traveling to a different city or country and there are some events you wouldn’t mind attending.
Once again this is an interesting idea from Facebook, but whether or not the app will be able to stick remains to be seen. In the meantime iOS users can download the app from the iTunes App Store, and Android users will have to wait a while as the Android version will only be released later.
