Facebook is already used by companies and local businesses to sell their products and services and now the world’s largest social network has launched a new feature to facilitate buying and selling in local communities. The new feature is called Facebook Marketplace which is going to serve as an easy destination for users to discover, buy, and sell items with people in their local community.

Facebook users can visit the Marketplace by tapping on the shop icon at the bottom of the Facebook app to find out what products and services are available for purchase locally. The company says that it’s going to continue to build new options and features to improve the experience for users.

Marketplace opens up with photos of items that people nearby have listed for sale. To find something specific users can make use of the search bar at the top and then filter their results by location, price, or category. They can also browse items by categories such as Electronics, Apparel, Household, and more.

Tapping on an image brings up more details about that item including product description as well as the name and profile photo of the seller and their general location. Those who are interested in purchasing an item can send a direct message to the seller from Marketplace to show interest and make an offer. From that point on the buyer and seller work out any and all details in a way that’s convenient to both. Facebook does not concern itself with payment or delivery of products sold via the Marketplace.

Listing an item for sale in Marketplace is just as easy. All users need to do is post a photo of their item with some details and they are good to go. Marketplace has been rolled out to users over the age of 18 across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The feature will be expanded to more countries as well as the desktop version of Facebook in the coming months.
