Facebook Messenger users can already make payments inside the app using cards and now PayPal has announced today that it’s rolling out as another payment option. This opens PayPal up to countless Facebook Messenger users. PayPal says that it has extended its relationship with Facebook and Messenger to make mobile ecommerce smarter, simpler, and more secure for both consumers and merchants.

PayPal is rolling out as a payment option in the United States across more of Facebook’s commerce experiences, particularly Messenger commerce. Its customers will now find it easier to link their PayPal accounts to Facebook and Messenger at PayPal checkout.

“We will continue to execute on our vision of offering PayPal in more places where people shop online, in app and in store by partnering with companies who share our desire to create meaningful products that benefit both consumers and merchants,” said Bill Ready, EVP and COO at PayPal.

Customers in the United States will now also be able to get PayPal notifications in Messenger, the company will make it easier for them to manage receipts for PayPal transactions in one place inside Messenger.

Messenger is starting to roll out native payments as well, this will enable PayPal merchants to accept PayPal payments directly in their Messenger bots. While all of this is limited to customers and merchants in the United States, it’s quite likely that this new experience will be eventually expanded to other markets where PayPal operates.
