Rockstar is putting the social media hype machine to good use these days as it’s teasing what appears to be a new Red Dead game. It’s because of the increased media focus on the studio that things that might go unnoticed are being scrutinized as well. For example, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has filed a trademark application for something called “Ghost Story.” We don’t know what Ghost Story is yet and why the trademark is being filed now, but since there’s talk of a new Rockstar game, might as well consider the possibility.

Take-Two actually filed five different trademark filings for Ghost Story, categories include movies, video games, and even clothing. The company itself hasn’t said anything about Ghost Story so it’s unclear right now what this is about, whether it’s a new IP or something that’s related to many of its existing games.

It’s not uncommon for companies to file for trademarks that they have no intention of using, for example, Take-Two Interactive also has trademarks for “Judas” and “GTA TV” but nothing has come of that yet. So one can’t say with absolute certainty that Ghost Story is a new IP that’s currently in the pipeline.

As far as Rockstar is concerned, it’s making full use of social media to get the hype going, and all of the hints that it has dropped so far are leading us to believe that a new Red Dead game is indeed going to be officially announced in the near future.
