A couple of weeks ago, Kodak teased that they had a new smartphone in the works. It was an interesting announcement as Kodak used to be known more for their camera products and film back in the day, rather than smartphones, although it is definitely not the company’s first attempts at creating one.
That being said, it looks like the wraps have been taken off and Kodak has officially unveiled their latest smartphone: the Kodak Ektra. It’s not exactly the most high-end smartphone we’ve seen, but it seems that the handset has been designed and modeled after the Kodak Ektra camera from 1941.
In terms of specs, we’re looking at a 5-inch Full HD display and under the hood, we can find a Helio X20 chipset with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a 3,000mAh battery, and unsurprisingly it seems that the focus here would be on the phone’s camera. It packs a 21MP camera with an f/2.0 lens and Optical Image Stabilization.
It comes with Phase Detection Autofocus, 4K recording, and a 13MP front-facing for selfies. Now we can’t speak to how good the camera is since we haven’t actually tried it, but the sample photos are certainly impressive if they were really taken by the phone’s camera itself. Kodak has also created special leather cases designed for the phone. It is priced at £450 and is expected to make its way to the UK this December, and if there is enough interest, it will eventually find its way stateside in 2017.
