lg-g5-modules_01Last week we reported that according to a report out of Korea, it was rumored that LG could be ditching the “Friends” modular system of the LG G5. The reason is due to the poor reception of the feature which seemed to have impacted the sales of the handset as well. However it seems that might not be the case.

According to the folks at AndroidPIT, they claim that they have since received a statement from a spokesperson at LG who states that nothing has been decided as of yet, and that so far all these reports are considered speculative. “We’ve made no decision and anything contrary to this is speculative, at best. We’re still looking at all the angles based on the needs and expectations of our current and potential customers.”

Prior to this, last month LG told customers that they would not be abandoning the modular system, so when we heard reports that they might, we were obviously a little disappointed. Not to mention customers who invested in the Friends ecosystem would no doubt be upset as it means a lot of money that would be wasted in technology that would be considered “old” and out of date in a year or two.

However LG’s statement doesn’t sound too reassuring because if anything, it sounds like LG could be considering ditching the system and it’s just that nothing has been finalized yet. In any case we guess we’ll just have to wait until 2017 to find out.
