Netflix has teamed up with the Girl Scouts of the USA on a noble project which seeks to get more young girls involved into steam, the idea is to encourage these kids to seek careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. An online resource called STEM Superstars Guide has been launched that can be accessed by scouts across the country to get information about STEM careers. Volunteers can also use this resource to find out what activities they can participate in and ideas that they can use to spark relevant conversations.
The aim of this partnership is to encourage more young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields. It’s said that 50 percent of young women decide against pursuing a career in STEM even though they show an early interest in these fields. The aim is to change that and connect young girls with female role models so that they can be inspired by them and set out to achieve great things.
Netflix also hosted troops from Silicon Valley at its headquarters yesterday where scouts were able to interact with female representatives from major tech companies such as Intel, Google, Instagram, and Twitter.
The teens who attended the session at Netflix were also given an early look at the new season of Project MC2 which is a Netflix original that features teen spies who are on a mission to save the world by using their knowledge of science and technology.
